Insults: A Guide to Common Anime/Manga Lingo for Newbies

untitled

As I stated in my previous posts  All the Feels, Honorifics, Navigating Genre and Navigating Media, I’m not exactly who you want to have on your Anime Trivia team.

So when I noticed “Baka” being used practically everywhere, my first thought was this…

Sweet, a crossover!

No Kimmie, that is Blanka from Street Fighter.  Okay, fine… so it must be a slang term for that sweet stuff, Baklava, right?  No?

Seriously, what kind of idiot am I for not even knowing what Baka means?!?! (see what I did there?) Since I am just the absolute best, I’m sharing with you what I learned over the last couple years in a series of posts called A Guide to Common Anime/Manga Lingo for Newbies.

As I stated in my previous posts, Honorifics,  Navigating Genre and Navigating Media, I’m no Ein when it comes to anime/manga.

As I stated in my previous posts, Navigating Genre and Navigating Media, I’m not a well seasoned expert to all things anime/manga related.  When anime characters start calling people “senpai” and ” <first name> – chan,” my first though was “…are, are they dating now?”

Extended Weekend Vibes

labor_day_graphic-REV

For Americans and Canadians the first Monday in September is Labor Day; a day held in honor of those who spend their year working to provide a better life for themselves and their families. Since finishing grad school this year and starting work as a researcher for my Alma Mater, I appreciate this small recognition.

Navigating Media: A Guide to Common Anime/Manga Lingo for Newbies

As I stated in my previous post, Navigating Genre, I’m fairly new to the anime game.  So imagine my surprise when browsing anime blogs and reviews (I’m very studious when I make the effort), only to be faced with words like omake, seiyu, and  cel vs.computerized images. Throw in abbreviations like SD, ONA, OST, and I was completely lost.
